Singer-Songwriter Shana Falana met producer Karl Marx on set while filming a commercial in upstate New York. She came from the San Francisco music with a guitar, ethereal vocals, and affliction for reverb and Bulgarian harmonies. Marx came from Nashville with classical piano training, hip-hop drums, and an eclectic record collection. Their disparate styles and influences somehow meld together to create music that is rooted in several genres at once: folk, drone, noise, hip-hop, electronica, and dance.
“Cloud Beat” features Falana’s floating harmonies on top of Marx’s disco drone, delivering lyrics about losing one’s place in the world with a deceptively simple, beautiful sing-song style; deliberately girlish and elusive at first, before exploding with a full throated harmony as the singer finds her way home.
The antic remix from Brooklyn IDM producer Jacob 2-2 adds warm vintage synth sounds, restless hip-hop drums, and glitchy vocal chops to the stew, amping up the song’s momentum towards something like euphoria.” He has produced remixes for Hip-Hop outfit Dalek as well as synth rockers Sensual Harassment. His first EP “Gifted Child” was released on the Cereal System imprint in September 2010
